Chicago-born writer Peter Orner is the author of the prize-winning “Esther Stories” (2001); “The Second Coming of Mavala Shikongo,” (2006) set in Namibia; and “Love and Shame and Love,” (2011), illustrated by his brother, Eric Orner. His newest collection of stories, “Last Car Over the Sagamore Bridge,” is due out August 6, 2013.
Orner has also edited two books of non-fiction, “Underground America” (2008) and, with co-editor Annie Holmes, “Hope Deferred: Narratives of Zimbabwean Lives,”(2010).
Orner has taught creative writing at many universities and is on the permanent faculty of San Francisco State University. He has been associated with JCCSF Arts and Ideas for many years as a panelist, moderator or interviewer, at Bookfest and other events.
